Learn How to Delete Search History on Samsung

Understanding Search History on Samsung Devices

Samsung devices store search history in multiple locations depending on which app or service you use. When you perform searches on your Samsung phone or tablet, information about those searches gets saved automatically. This includes searches made through Google, Samsung Internet browser, voice searches through Bixby, and searches within individual apps like YouTube or Maps.

Search history serves a practical purpose. It helps your device show relevant suggestions when you start typing in the search box. It personalizes your experience by remembering what you looked for in the past. However, many people prefer to delete this information regularly for privacy reasons or to keep their device running smoothly.

The types of search history stored on Samsung devices include browser searches (searches made in Chrome, Firefox, or Samsung Internet), voice search history (searches performed using voice commands), app-specific search history (searches within individual applications), and location search history (searches made in Maps and navigation apps). Each of these types stores data in different locations on your device.

It's important to understand that deleting search history typically removes the record of what you searched for, but it doesn't delete the websites or apps themselves from your device. It also doesn't stop your device from collecting new search history going forward unless you turn off that feature. Different Samsung devices running different versions of Android may have slightly different steps, but the general process remains similar across most models.

Practical Takeaway: Before deleting search history, identify which apps and services you want to clear history from. Search history gets stored in your browser, voice assistant, individual apps, and location services, so you may need to clear each area separately.

How to Delete Browser Search History on Samsung Internet

Samsung Internet is the default browser on most Samsung devices. To delete your search history from this browser, open the Samsung Internet app and look for the menu button, typically represented by three vertical lines (hamburger menu) in the bottom right corner of the screen. Tap this menu button to open the options.

Once the menu opens, scroll down and look for "Settings" or "History." The exact wording depends on your Samsung device model and Android version. Select "History" to view all your recent searches and visited websites. This page shows your browsing history organized by date, with the most recent activities at the top.

To delete all history at once, look for a "Clear browsing data" or "Clear history" button, usually located at the top or bottom of the history page. When you tap this option, a dialog box appears asking what you want to delete. You'll typically see checkboxes for "Browsing history," "Cookies and site data," "Cached images and files," and sometimes "Passwords" and "Autofill data."

Make sure "Browsing history" is checked, then select the time range. You can usually choose from options like "Last hour," "Last 24 hours," "Last 7 days," "Last 4 weeks," or "All time." If you want to delete everything, select "All time." After selecting your preferences, tap "Clear data" or "Delete" to confirm. The process typically completes within a few seconds.

If you want to delete specific search results rather than everything, you can long-press individual items in your history list. Most Samsung Internet browsers allow you to select multiple items this way and then delete only those selected entries. This approach works well if you want to remove certain searches but keep others for reference.

Practical Takeaway: Open Samsung Internet, access the menu, go to History, choose your preferred time range, and select "Clear browsing data" to remove search history from your browser.

Deleting Google Search History on Samsung Devices

Google Search stores your search queries separately from your browser history. This includes searches you perform through the Google search widget on your home screen, Google Now, or Google Assistant. To delete Google Search history on a Samsung device, you need to access your Google Account settings rather than just clearing your browser.

Start by opening any web browser on your Samsung device and going to myactivity.google.com. You can also access this through the Google app if it's installed. Sign in with the Google Account associated with your Samsung device. This page displays all your Google searches, YouTube views, locations visited, and other activities tracked by Google services.

Once you're in your Google Activity, you'll see your search history organized by date. To delete individual searches, click or tap the X button next to each item. To delete larger sections of history, look for the "Delete activity by" option, usually found on the left side of the screen. This allows you to select a specific date range or all activity.

When you select "Delete activity by," you get options to filter by date range and by service. You can choose to delete only Google Search history or include other services like YouTube, Maps, and Chrome. The time range options typically include "All time," "Last hour," "Last 24 hours," "Last 7 days," "Last 4 weeks," and "Custom range" where you can pick exact dates.

After selecting your preferences, tap the "Delete" button to confirm. Google will remove the specified search history from your account. Keep in mind that this removes history from Google's servers, not just from your Samsung device. This also means the deletion affects your Google account across all devices you use with that account, including computers and other phones.

You can also turn off activity storage in this section. Look for "Web & App Activity" settings and toggle it off to prevent Google from recording future searches. However, some Google services may not work as well without this feature enabled, as it's used for personalization.

Practical Takeaway: Visit myactivity.google.com from your Samsung device, sign into your Google Account, select the time range you want to delete, and confirm the deletion to remove Google Search history associated with your account.

Removing Voice Search History from Bixby and Google Assistant

Voice searches performed through Bixby (Samsung's voice assistant) or Google Assistant are recorded and stored separately from text searches. To delete Bixby voice search history, open the Bixby app or activate Bixby through the dedicated button or voice command. Look for the settings icon (usually a gear symbol) within Bixby.

Navigate to "Settings" or "About Bixby," then find "Privacy" or "Voice Recognition Settings." Within these settings, you should find an option related to voice history or voice data. Look for "Delete voice recordings" or "Clear voice history." Select this option to remove your recorded voice commands and searches from Bixby's records.

For Google Assistant, open the Google Assistant app or activate it by saying "Hey Google." Tap your profile picture in the upper right corner, then select "Settings." Go to "Assistant" and then "Google Assistant settings." From there, navigate to "Assistant" > "Google Assistant" > "Settings." Look for "Voice and Video" or "Privacy" sections where you'll find options to delete voice history.

You can delete voice history by date range or all at once. Google Assistant typically offers options like "Last hour," "Last 24 hours," "Last 30 days," or "All time." Select your preferred range and confirm the deletion. Unlike text search history, voice history includes the actual audio recordings of your commands, so deleting it removes both the record and the audio files.

Some Samsung devices may also store voice history in Google's activity page (myactivity.google.com) under "Voice and Audio Activities." You can delete these records there as well. It's worth checking both locations to make sure you've removed all voice search data.

You can reduce future voice recording by adjusting your voice assistant settings. Both Bixby and Google Assistant have options to limit what data they collect. You might also consider turning off voice history storage entirely if you rarely use voice search features, though this may affect the personalization these assistants provide.

Practical Takeaway: Access Bixby or Google Assistant settings, navigate to privacy or voice history options, select your preferred time range, and delete voice search history to remove recorded voice commands and searches.

Clearing App-Specific Search History on Samsung

Many apps on your Samsung device maintain their own search history. YouTube stores your search history and video viewing records. Maps keeps a history of places you searched for. Email apps may store searches within messages. Social media apps track what you've searched for within their platforms. Each of these apps stores and manages search
